    The home tour is a great way to see island life apart from the resort hotels in Kailua-Kona.  It's run by two women who really seem to enjoy what they do.  They'll pick you up in the van and take you to several different houses, telling you about the houses and their owners along the way.  The homes have quite a bit of variety: One is a spacious movie-star's-vacation-home type, another is a historic, rustic-but-amazing house owned by an organic coffee farmer.  The latter house is back in the jungle (you would NEVER find this on your own!) and it's very organic itself--it looks like it was built and furnished, little by little, over generations.

    Chef Ann serves a meal course made with local fruit, nuts, and vegetables at each house.  It's a hobbit's delight: breakfast, second breakfast, and elevensies, all prepared for you.  The food is fantastic and the courses are nicely paced--you definitely feel well-fed by the end, but without the food coma.  It's a nice way to spend a morning in Kona.
